This book aims to tell the story of Paul Rand’s life and career, researched and designed with his sense of style in mind. Rand’s designs are exceptionally thoughtful and precise, yet his work retains a sense of childlike freedom and joy that I find inspiring and wonderful.

His use of collage and illustration inspired many of the choices made in the design of this book. I gathered different elements from his work to create a theme for the book, including colors, typography, and collage. The jagged-edged shapes on each page aim to emulate a similar effect to his use of paper cut-outs. Not only do these shapes capture Rand’s technique, but the points also help bounce the eye across the page reinforcing the playfulness of his work.
